Police have arrested Alice Udey, a 33-year-old woman allegedly for stealing jewellery worth over $60,000 from her employer less than 24 hours after starting work as a maid.

The suspect, who operates under several fake names, was taken into custody at the Ikoyi Police Station following a 16-month investigation.

It was gathered that the suspect and other gangs are targeting wealthy households.

According to reports the arrest follows an intensive 16-month investigation that police say exposed a well-coordinated scheme involving domestic workers who gain access to affluent homes under false pretences.

According to police, Udey disappeared the day after her employment began, taking with her valuable jewellery from her employer’s residence.

“This appears to be a calculated operation where individuals pose as domestic staff to infiltrate homes and steal valuables,” a senior police officer said anonymously.

“We believe Ms. Udey’s actions are part of a wider syndicate operating in high-end neighbourhoods.”

Investigators at Ikoyi Police Station revealed that months of surveillance and intelligence gathering led to Udey’s recent arrest.

However, the police are currently pursuing other suspects believed to be part of the organized crime network.

Police are encouraging residents to report any similar incidents as they continue efforts to dismantle the suspected syndicate.

Udey is expected to face charges of theft, with the possibility of additional charges as the investigation unfolds.
