How Lagos police nabbed notorious supermarket burglar

The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed how a footage obtained from a Close Circuit Camera (CCTV) in a supermarket, led to the arrest of a notorious burglar in the Ilupeju area of the state.

Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police at Ilupeju received a complaint from the owner of a supermarket that her mini-mart was burgled on October 14, and items worth over ₦893,000, were carted away.

Hundeyin said based on the report, detectives from the station swung into action and during investigation collected footage from a CCTV camera installed in the supermarket.

“In the footage when it was played back, one Yusuf Suleiman, a notorious burglar in the area, was seen breaking into the shop.

“The footage also showed how the suspect removed the stolen items from the supermarket.

“Following this discovery, the team commenced a manhunt for the suspect and a few days later, the said Yusuf was arrested.

“During interrogation, the suspect narrated how he broke into the supermarket. He also confessed that he had sold off all the stolen items at the notorious Idi-Oro area of Mushin,” he stated.

Similarly, detectives from Ikotun Division, Lagos State Police Command have arrested a cable vandal, Denola Oladega, 25.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday after he was spotted by a security man attached to a company on Governor’s Road, Ikotun.

Hundeyin, who also confirmed the arrested, said Demola was arrested after the security man noticed his usual movement around 5am on Thursday.

“The security man called one of the police patrol teams in the area and their prompt arrival led to the arrest of Demola.

“When he was arrested, the vandalised wires, a used battery and a Pongxing motorcycle with REG NO KSF 854 QL, were recovered from him,” he said.
