In an appeal to Nigeria’s premier anti-graft agencies, the APC New Media Campaign Council Committee has called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the Edo State Government, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, and the 18 Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen under his administration.
This request comes amidst alarming allegations of massive fund diversion as the gubernatorial elections approaches.
According to a statement on Tuesday by Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Director APC New Media Campaign Council Committee says recent investigation suggests that funds allocated for local government development are being diverted to finance the Edo Gubernatorial campaign.
“This misappropriation of resources, if proven true, has dire implications for the state’s infrastructure, social amenities, and overall security,” the party chieftain said.
“The APC New Media Campaign Council deems it imperative for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to extend their investigative reach to these allegations.
“Edo State’s current state of affairs is deeply troubling, with widespread issues such as poor road conditions, inadequate infrastructure, lack of essential social services, and a deteriorating security situation. It is unacceptable that funds intended for grassroots development are allegedly being siphoned off for electoral purposes. Such actions undermine the growth and stability of the state and betray the trust of the electorate.
“The APC New Media Campaign Council strongly urges the EFCC and ICPC to act swiftly and decisively. The people of Edo State deserve transparent and accountable governance, and it is the duty of these security agencies to ensure that justice is served. This investigation is crucial not only for the integrity of the upcoming elections but also for the future prosperity of Edo State.
“Edo State deserves leadership that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens over political ambitions. It is time for the EFCC and ICPC to step in and put a stop to these alleged corrupt practices.”
