Nigeria’s telecommunications firm, 9mobile, has officially rebranded to T2, marking what the company described as the beginning of a bold new era.

The announcement was made on Friday during a high-profile unveiling ceremony held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Femi Banigbe, Chief Executive Officer of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), the parent company of 9mobile, described the rebrand as more than a cosmetic change.

“This is not just a brand unveiling. It is the beginning of a bold new chapter in our history,” Banigbe declared. “It is a declaration that we are no longer who we were, but we are becoming something greater—something more ambitious.”

According to him, the transformation goes beyond a new name, logo, or tagline, and represents a deeper evolution of the company’s mission and its promise to customers.

He noted that as technology becomes inseparable from business, culture, and human interaction, Nigerian consumers are demanding more—speed, access, relevance, and innovation.

“We see it in the rising tide of the youth, in the energy of our entrepreneurs, in the vibrancy of our startup ecosystem, and in the desires of families to stay connected, informed, and entertained anytime and anywhere,” he said.

Banigbe emphasized that T2’s evolution is driven by the need to remain relevant in an ever-changing digital landscape, and that the brand’s strategy will focus on radical, pragmatic innovation.

He also affirmed that the reimagined brand remains “proudly Nigerian”, rooted in the spirit of resilience and tenacity that defines the country.

“In the face of overwhelming odds, the Nigerian people have shown resilience and a tenacity that continues to inspire the world,” he said. “We’ve faced setbacks and difficult times, but just like Nigeria, we come back stronger—every single time.”

Banigbe concluded by reaffirming T2’s renewed determination to confront market challenges with fresh vision and enduring resolve.
