The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral document circulating on social media claiming that officers attached to certain VIPs have been ordered to return to base immediately.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police described the document — purportedly from the 50 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Abuja — as fake and designed to mislead the public.
The memo, allegedly signed by one CSP Suleiman Abdullahi and presented as an “Admin Officer” of the squadron, directed all officers attached to named individuals to report back to base. Hundeyin, however, said no officer by that name serves in the 50 PMF Squadron, adding that the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police does not occupy the position of Admin Officer in any PMF squadron.
“This fabrication appears to be a deliberate attempt to misinform Nigerians and create unnecessary confusion,” the statement noted.
Hundeyin clarified that while the implementation of the Presidential directive to withdraw police officers from VIP duties has commenced, it is being executed in a “structured, phased, and professional manner” to avoid any security gaps that criminals could exploit.
He assured that the safety of Nigerians remains the top priority and that adequate measures have been put in place to maintain law and order throughout the transition.
The police urged the public to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate information and to desist from circulating unverified documents capable of undermining public confidence.
The statement reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of lives and property.
