President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) to coordinate the rollout of the administration’s newly enacted tax laws.

The committee, chaired by tax and finance expert Joseph Tegbe, is mandated to ensure coherent and effective implementation of landmark tax reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s public finance system and boosting economic growth.

According to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will supervise the committee’s work.

The NTPIC will carry out extensive consultations with stakeholders across the public and private sectors to secure broad input and smooth execution of the reforms. Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), brings over 35 years of professional experience, including his tenure as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.

Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, will serve as Secretary of the Committee. Other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and several experts from tax administration, finance, law, the private sector and civil society.

President Tinubu described effective implementation of the new tax laws as essential to the administration’s economic transformation agenda.

“These new Tax Acts reflect our commitment to a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting the interests of citizens and businesses,” he said. “The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee will ensure aligned and efficient implementation across all levels of government.”

The committee’s mandate includes broad stakeholder engagement nationwide, inter-agency coordination, harmonisation of frameworks, and public sensitisation to aid understanding of the new laws.

Tegbe pledged the committee’s commitment to national development, stating that members would work closely with all stakeholders to ensure public trust in the tax system.

Minister Wale Edun noted that the Committee’s creation marks a significant step toward overhauling Nigeria’s fiscal policy framework. “Mr President has provided the authority and support to reset the tax system and deliver significant economic growth for the benefit of all Nigerians,” he said.

The NTPIC is expected to boost revenue mobilisation, reduce leakages, and promote accountability, strengthening the government’s fiscal sustainability efforts.
