The Nigeria Police Force has reported a strong level of compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.
According to the Force Headquarters, a special enforcement team was deployed to monitor adherence to the presidential directive, which seeks to redirect police manpower toward core policing responsibilities nationwide.
The monitoring exercise was carried out on December 6, 2025, beginning at about 10:00 a.m., across several strategic locations in Lagos State, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other key points in the state.
Findings from the operation showed no incidents of unauthorised VIP escort deployment. Officials confirmed that no arrests were made as officers and men were found to be fully compliant with the new policy.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to enforcing the presidential order, stating that the withdrawal of personnel from VIP duties would allow the police to strengthen public safety, crime prevention, and community protection across the country.
He assured Nigerians that enforcement will continue nationwide “without fear or favour,” and called for public cooperation as the police work toward a more professional and citizen-focused service.
