The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that its National President-elect, Mr. Abubakar Yakubu, was involved in a fatal road accident on Tuesday, December 9, in Lagos.

According to the Guild, the accident occurred after an unexpected mechanical brake failure, leading to a collision that claimed the life of a child and left the child’s mother injured. The mother is currently receiving medical treatment.

The AGN stated that Mr. Yakubu immediately cooperated fully with law enforcement and emergency personnel at the scene, describing him as a law-abiding citizen who is devastated by the incident.

Guild leaders have since visited the bereaved family to offer condolences, emotional support, and solidarity, noting that both the family and the AGN share an understanding that the tragedy was an unfortunate accident. The Guild commended the family for the grace they have shown during this difficult period.

Mr. Yakubu is said to be deeply shaken and continues to pray for the repose of the child’s soul and the swift recovery of the mother.

Describing the event as a painful reminder of life’s fragility, the AGN called on members of the public to offer prayers and support while refraining from speculation or divisive remarks. It emphasized its commitment to compassion, unity, and responsibility within the industry.

The Guild appealed for privacy and respect for all parties as they navigate their grief and recovery.
