Six suspected miscreants have been remanded in custody by the Lagos State Mobile Court over a violent attack on officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other government agencies during an enforcement operation along Airport Road, Lagos.
The suspects were among seven individuals arraigned on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, before the Chief Magistrate of the Lagos State Mobile Court on four-count charges bordering on assault, obstruction of government officials, and destruction of public property. The court adjourned the matter to February 19, 2026, for further hearing. One of the defendants, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail, while the remaining six were ordered to be remanded.
The incident occurred during a midnight enforcement exercise led by the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in collaboration with security operatives, the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Corps, the Lagos State Task Force, and LASTMA field officers.
The operation followed multiple complaints from the Nigerian Airport Authority (NPA) over persistent illegal occupation of its facilities by criminal elements and defiant commercial bus operators operating along the airport corridor.
According to the NPA, activities of the suspected miscreants had become a serious public nuisance, with frequent reports of harassment, intimidation, and dispossession of unsuspecting road users and pedestrians.
During the operation, five officers of the joint task force were reportedly attacked with dangerous weapons, while one government tow truck was set on fire in an attempt to disrupt the exercise.
Despite the attack, officers were said to have acted with restraint and professionalism. A total of 56 vehicles were impounded during the exercise for various traffic and environmental violations, including 44 commercial buses, five private vehicles, and seven trucks.
Speaking on the development, the General Manager of LASTMA reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure, ensuring the safety of road users, and maintaining law and order.
He warned that the government would not yield to intimidation or violence, adding that enforcement activities along strategic corridors in Lagos would continue in collaboration with sister agencies to curb criminality and safeguard lives and property.
