British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital following the road accident that claimed the lives of two young men, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, on December 29, 2025.
In a joint statement on Wednesday, the Lagos and Ogun state governments expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as tragic and painful. The governments prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and strength for their families.
The statement said Joshua, though “heavy-hearted and full of emotions” over the loss of his close friends, was deemed clinically fit and discharged late Tuesday to continue recuperation at home.
It added that Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos earlier in the day to pay their last respects as preparations were made for the repatriation of the deceased later that evening.
Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State thanked members of the public for their concern and outpouring of support since the incident. They also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as his “fatherly support” throughout the process.
The governments further commended the doctors and medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and quality of care in treating Joshua and other injured victims.
