The Lagos State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the murder of Prince Ademola Akinloye, son of the Ajiran of Agungi, Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye.
Prince Ademola was shot dead by gunmen on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Drive near Ebano Supermarket in the Agungi area of Lagos. The brazen attack, carried out in broad daylight, sent shockwaves through the community and sparked widespread calls for justice.
Police sources disclosed that seven of the suspects were apprehended by the command’s tactical squad on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, following renewed intelligence-led operations. Two other suspects had reportedly been arrested a week earlier, bringing the total number of persons in custody to nine.
Investigators are also probing possible links between the suspects and another homicide. Some of those arrested are being investigated over the killing of Sheriff Salami, which occurred on April 18, 2023, in the Moba community of Ajah. Authorities are working to determine whether both incidents are connected.
Reacting to the development, the Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran confirmed its active engagement with security agencies to ensure justice is served. The monarch, Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye, stressed the need to bring all perpetrators to book so residents of the kingdom can live without fear. The family also cautioned the public against unauthorized transactions involving its land, distancing the murder from claims that it stemmed from a land dispute.
A prominent businessman in the area, Bashir Fakorede, commended the police for reopening and intensifying the investigation, which led to the arrests. He described attempts to frame the killing as a mere land disagreement as misleading and urged authorities to ensure a transparent and speedy process. Fakorede also appealed to youths in the community to remain calm and pursue justice through lawful means.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, had yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report. However, police sources say investigations are ongoing and further updates will be communicated to the public.
