A mother and her son on Tuesday morning miraculously escaped death after their Lexus SUV overturned several times at the NYSC Bus Stop along the LASU–Isheri Expressway in Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the lone accident, which occurred during peak-hour traffic along the busy corridor serving the Lagos State University axis.
According to the agency, the Lexus Jeep with registration number KJA 39 JT was travelling from Isheri towards Igando when it suddenly lost stability. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted three times before coming to a halt amid heavy vehicular movement.
LASTMA operatives stationed in the area swiftly mobilised to the scene and carried out a coordinated rescue operation. The occupants — a mother and her son — were extricated from the wreckage with visible bruises and mild trauma.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Igando Division provided security and managed crowd control to ensure a smooth rescue and evacuation process.
Family members of the victims later arrived at the scene and took them for further medical evaluation.
To prevent secondary accidents and ease traffic congestion, LASTMA officials worked with personnel of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to remove the damaged vehicle, which was subsequently handed over to the police for investigation.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident. He wished the victims a speedy recovery and reiterated the agency’s commitment to prompt emergency response and road safety enforcement.
Bakare-Oki also urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and conduct regular mechanical checks, particularly on critical components such as braking systems, warning that excessive speed combined with mechanical faults often leads to serious road accidents on major expressways.
