Uber driver arraigned for ₦7m Toyota Camry theft in Lagos

A 32-year-old Uber driver, Godswill Amfor, was on Thursday arraigned before the Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry valued at N7 million.

Amfor, who resides in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on January 25 at Awolowo Road, Ikeja. He said the accused reportedly stole a silver Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 582 LB belonging to the complainant, Mr. Caleb Daudu.

According to the prosecution, police officers arrested Amfor on January 26 while he was driving the stolen vehicle in the Maryland area of Lagos. The vehicle, along with other personal items said to belong to the complainant, was recovered from him.

Perezi noted that the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, Magistrate Mrs. S. K. Matepo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until March 23 for mention.
