The Zamfara State government has launched an electronic membership drive to enroll 400,000 new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada, announced the commencement of the e-registration in Gusau.
He urged residents across the state to register, which will reopen on Wednesday.
“We target 400,000 additional progressive members from Zamfara in the next 17 days,” Nakwada said.
He explained that the drive aims to strengthen the party’s presence in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The e-registration follows Governor Dauda Lawal’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The governor formally announced his move on Monday in Gusau through his deputy, Malam Mani Mummuni, after consulting political stakeholders.
According to Nakwada, the decision to join the APC came during a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by the State Deputy Governor.
A committee led by elder statesman Alhaji Salihu Mai Buhu-Gummi coordinated state-wide consultations to assess the political situation and the PDP’s internal crisis.
“The governor’s decision to join APC was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by the State Deputy Governor,” Nakwada said.
He added that the consultations recommended the move to promote unity and foster development in the state.
Nakwada called on residents to participate actively in the registration to help the party reach its membership goal.
“The APC membership e-registration will reopen tomorrow,” he said.
“I therefore urge residents of the state to come out en masse to register to surpass the 400,000 target.”
He also confirmed that all members of the state executive council and political appointees support the governor’s defection and the membership drive.
