Two drivers employed by Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) part of the BRT franchise have been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following their arrest for allegedly siphoning fuel from a company bus.
The Managing Director of LBSL, Idowu Oguntona, disclosed that the incident occurred on March 10, 2026, and was exposed through a video recorded by a concerned member of the public.
According to the company, the footage showed the two drivers, also referred to as bus captains, siphoning fuel from one of the buses. They were promptly identified, apprehended, and handed over to security authorities for investigation.
The suspects were arraigned before a mobile court on March 12 and subsequently remanded in custody pending further hearing scheduled for April 22, 2026.
Oguntona condemned the alleged misconduct, stressing that the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy for fraud, theft, and other unethical practices. He added that any staff found culpable would face strict disciplinary action, including possible prosecution.
He also praised the vigilance of the citizen who reported the incident, noting that public cooperation is crucial in ensuring accountability within the state’s transport system.
LBSL reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and ethical standards, stating that it will continue to strengthen internal monitoring systems to prevent similar occurrences.
