President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the United Kingdom, with a strong focus on security cooperation, economic growth, and shared democratic values.

Speaking at a state banquet hosted in his honour by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, Tinubu described the engagement as a historic moment that reinforces the long-standing relationship between both nations, built on mutual respect, shared history, and a common vision for global stability.

The president emphasised that Nigeria and the UK are united by democratic ideals and must continue working together to promote peace, prosperity, and strong institutions. He highlighted the influence of British legal traditions—such as the Magna Carta—on Nigeria’s governance structures, including its parliamentary system, civil service, and judiciary.

Tinubu also noted that beyond institutional ties, the Nigerian diaspora remains a vital link between both countries, contributing significantly to sectors such as healthcare, business, education, sports, and public service in the UK.

Addressing security concerns, he underscored Nigeria’s leading role in maintaining stability in West Africa, particularly in tackling terrorism linked to the Sahel region. He stressed that collaboration with the UK remains critical in confronting these threats and safeguarding regional peace.

Looking ahead, Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, describing the country as resilient and driven by a youthful population eager to achieve its full potential. He also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the Commonwealth of Nations as a platform for advancing trade, cooperation, and development.

In his remarks, King Charles III praised Nigeria as a growing economic and cultural force, highlighting the contributions of Nigerians in the UK across key sectors, including technology, law, healthcare, and the arts. He also acknowledged the evolving nature of UK-Nigeria relations, noting the importance of building a future grounded in trust, cooperation, and shared values.

The event, attended by Oluremi Tinubu and Queen Camilla, concluded with a toast celebrating the enduring partnership between both nations and a shared commitment to a prosperous future.
