Sola Giwa, former Special Adviser on Transportation to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stepped down from his position as he prepares to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Giwa announced his resignation on Wednesday via X, explaining that the decision followed extensive consultations and personal reflection.
His move aligns with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which require political appointees to resign before seeking elective office.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the opportunity to serve, highlighting his role in advancing transport reforms under the THEMES+ Agenda.
Giwa confirmed his intention to represent Lagos Island Federal Constituency II, pledging to focus on impactful legislation and stronger representation. His transition marks the next step in a political career that includes service in the Lagos State House of Assembly (2015–2019) and previous advisory roles in the state’s transport sector.
