Tinubu re-election: Ex-lawmaker seeks Obi’s endorsement

A former Lagos lawmaker, Jude Idimogu, has urged Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to endorse President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

He appealed during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, where he also serves as Deputy Leader of Ndigbo in the Lagos APC.

Idimogu dismissed the opposition coalition linked to the ADC, arguing that it lacks the strength to defeat the president.

He said, “It is clear ADC cannot unseat Tinubu,” while maintaining that the current political landscape favours Tinubu’s continuity in office.

He further described Tinubu as a leader who recognises loyalty, insisting that political alliances often determine future opportunities.

He encouraged Obi to reconsider his alignment and adopt a more collaborative approach with the president ahead of the 2027 election.

He added, “Politics is about calculated alliances,” stressing the importance of strategic decision-making in electoral politics.

Idimogu also called on Southern political actors to consolidate support behind Tinubu’s second-term ambition to avoid internal divisions.

He warned that a fractured regional vote could weaken political influence at the national level.

He concluded that unity among Southern leaders would reinforce stability, saying, “The South must remain united,” ahead of the next general election.
