‘My Father’s Shadow’ dominates as AMVCA 2026 celebrates Africa’s finest in Lagos

The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) was held in grand style on Saturday night at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, with filmmakers, actors and digital creators from across Africa honoured for outstanding achievements in film, television and digital storytelling.

One of the biggest winners of the night was My Father’s Shadow, which clinched several major awards, including Best Movie, Best Director, Best Writing (Movie) and Best Sound/Sound Design.

The film’s director, Akinola Davies Jr, won the Best Director category, while writer Wale Davies took home the award for Best Writing – Movie.

In the acting categories, Linda Ejiofor emerged as Best Lead Actress for her role in The Serpent’s Gift and also won Best Supporting Actress for The Herd.

Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for his performance in Colours of Fire, while Bucci Franklin secured the Best Supporting Actor award for To Kill a Monkey.

The Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) award went to Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, produced by Lateef Adedimeji.

In the television category, Inimba won both Best Indigenous M-Net Original and Best Scripted Series, while The Low Priest claimed the Best Scripted M-Net Original award.

Reality competition show Nigerian Idol won Best Unscripted Series.

Digital creators Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom won the Best Digital Content Creator category for Leave To Live.

Veteran actors Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to the African entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, fast-rising actress Uche Montana was honoured with the Trailblazer Award.

Other notable winners included Colours of Fire for Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction, while MTV Shuga Mashariki won Best Writing – TV Series.

The ceremony was broadcast live across Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, with viewers across the continent following the event through television and streaming platforms.
