The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) President, Lami Onayi Ahmed, has confirmed that Port Harcourt will welcome female golfers from across Nigeria as preparations intensify for the third Interclub Golf Championship scheduled for May 13 to May 16 at the Port Harcourt Club 1928 Golf Section.
The association arranged the competition to strengthen women’s participation in golf while creating room for talent discovery and stronger national competition among clubs.
Officials secured recognition from the R&A, and the World Amateur Golf Ranking system approved the championship for global ranking points.
Organisers also secured sponsorship support from First Bank of Nigeria Limited and other corporate partners for the four-day event.
Ahmed said the championship will deepen discipline among players and build stronger sporting relationships among women golfers across the country.
She stated, “We are committed to developing women’s golf and creating opportunities for players to compete at higher levels.”
She also encouraged participants to maintain high standards and demonstrate strong sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Nkoyo Igunbor, who chairs the Local Organising Committee and serves as LGAN 1st Vice President, outlined the schedule for the opening day activities.
She said the programme will feature arrivals, practice rounds, flag hoisting, a ceremonial tee-off, and a cocktail reception.
She added that participants will wear LGAN jackets and white trousers during the evening flag-off ceremony.
She confirmed that the ceremonial tee-off will follow at 5 p.m., after which a cocktail session themed “Express Yourself” will be held.
Competition play will begin on May 14 after breakfast, scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.
Igunbor said organisers approved club uniforms and creative outfits for the opening round, followed by lunch and a karaoke night.
She added that round two will be held on May 15 after breakfast, with golfers allowed to choose between club uniforms and freestyle dressing.
The final round will take place on May 16 with players wearing tournament T-shirts and white trousers alongside guests and sponsors.
Organisers fixed caddy fees at N5,000 for the duration of the championship.
Igunbor said the prize presentation will occur immediately after the final group completes play, followed by lunch and closing ceremonies.
