Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obasa, who has represented Agege Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly since 2007, is set to leave the state legislature after 19 years. He has also served as Speaker of the House since 2015.
The lawmaker is seeking to succeed Wale Ahmed, the current representative of Agege Federal Constituency, whose first term in the House of Representatives will end in 2027.
Obasa made his declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday in Agege, Lagos, where he disclosed that APC leaders in the constituency encouraged him to join the race.
The Speaker also urged party members to support the ambition of his political ally and former Chairman of Agege Local Government, Kola Egunjobi, who is now seeking the APC ticket for Agege Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Egunjobi had earlier begun consultations and mobilisation for the House of Representatives position before the latest development.
Obasa further appealed for support for Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo, who is aspiring to represent Agege Constituency II in the state assembly.
The development comes amid increasing political activities and mobilisation by APC aspirants in Agege ahead of the party primaries.
Party members and residents across Agege and Orile-Agege are also awaiting the outcome of the APC screening exercise being conducted by the state and national leadership of the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
