Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a massive shipment of illicit drugs valued at ₦12.397 billion at the Apapa Port Complex in Lagos.

The agency recovered 4,959 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed in a 40-foot container imported from Toronto, Canada. The container also carried a Ford and a Nissan vehicle.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the seizure followed more than four weeks of intelligence-led surveillance and tracking. The container was monitored from its departure in Toronto on April 25, moved through Montreal by rail, transited via Tanger Med Port in Morocco, and arrived in Lagos in early June before it was intercepted during a joint examination involving the NDLEA, the Nigeria Customs Service, other security agencies, and port stakeholders.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for the successful operation, describing it as another major blow to international drug trafficking networks. He urged operatives to sustain the agency’s drug supply reduction efforts while intensifying its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign across the country.
