The Lagos State Government has postponed all Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, in parts of Ikorodu Division due to the Oro Festival.
According to the state government, the affected examinations have been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 7, while all other BECE papers will proceed as planned.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, the government said the decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders and was taken to ensure the safety of candidates, examination officials and other participants.
The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, assured that the 2026 BECE, which began on June 29, will continue without disruption except for the postponed papers.
The government advised candidates to obtain the revised examination timetable from their schools and prepare for the rescheduled papers. It also apologised for any inconvenience caused and appealed to parents, guardians, school administrators and the public for their understanding and cooperation.
The Oro Festival is a traditional Yoruba religious observance that involves male-only rites and temporary movement restrictions in affected communities.
