Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, Yusuf Lamina Adigun, during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of the state.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying three passengers and recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge from the suspect during a search.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Adigun allegedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye cult group and disclosed that he and other members, who escaped arrest, were reportedly on their way to carry out an attack before they were intercepted by the police.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, while efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and violent crime, Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai said intelligence-led policing and proactive operations would be sustained across Lagos. He also urged residents to support the police with timely and credible information to help prevent crime and enhance public safety.
