Residents of Mercyland (Jabe CDA), 3rd Power Line, Oke Eletu, Ijede in Ikorodu, Lagos State, are abandoning their homes following a wave of armed robbery attacks that culminated in the killing of a Community Development Association (CDA) executive, Abdulazeez Olaoye.

According to residents, armed robbers stormed the community between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on July 12, attacking several houses, injuring residents with machetes and carting away cash, phones and other valuables. Olaoye was reportedly hacked to death while trying to alert neighbours during the attack.

Residents said the latest incident was the sixth robbery attack recorded in the community this year, alleging that the persistent insecurity has left many families traumatised and forced some to relocate. They also claimed previous attacks left several people injured, while a woman was reportedly raped during one of the earlier invasions.

The community has appealed to the Lagos State Government, the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to urgently deploy more security personnel, investigate the killing, arrest those responsible and intensify patrols to restore peace and confidence in the area.
