The Osun State Police Command has summoned Francis Fadahunsi, the senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his controversial comment allegedly directing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
The invitation followed widespread outrage over a video of the senator’s remarks during an APC campaign in Ilesa ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In the video, Fadahunsi, who spoke in Yoruba, was heard telling APC supporters to “kill” Accord members whenever they encountered them, a statement that sparked condemnation and concern over possible electoral violence.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police invited the senator to clarify the circumstances surrounding the statement.
The letter, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, directed Fadahunsi to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11am on Wednesday, August 12.
According to the police, the invitation was based on information alleging that the senator made statements considered threatening, inciting and intimidating during the campaign programme.
The command added that the remarks had circulated widely across electronic and social media platforms.
Following the backlash, Fadahunsi’s team attempted to clarify the senator’s comments, insisting that he was not calling for physical violence against Accord members.
In a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” his team said the senator’s remarks were political and metaphorical, explaining that he was urging APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party overwhelmingly through lawful, peaceful and democratic means at the ballot box.
The clarification came amid heightened political tensions ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, has repeatedly accused the APC of using thugs to attack his supporters, allegations the party has disputed.
