The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy weather, thunderstorms and moderate rains across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Monday, NiMet said the northern region would experience patches of cloud in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rains expected later in the day.
For the North-Central region, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rains forecast over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states.
The agency also predicted cloudy skies over the southern region, with chances of light morning rains in parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. Moderate rains are expected over several parts of the region later in the day.
NiMet said similar weather conditions would persist on Tuesday, with morning thunderstorms and light rains expected over parts of Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Taraba and Adamawa states.
It also forecast thunderstorms and moderate rains over parts of Benue, Kogi, Plateau and Nasarawa states, while parts of the South-East and coastal areas could experience light morning rains.
By Tuesday afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
For Wednesday, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe states, with similar conditions expected across most parts of the northern region later in the day.
The North-Central region is expected to remain cloudy, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Nasarawa and Plateau states, followed by moderate rains across much of the region in the afternoon and evening.
Across the South, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions and intermittent light rains over parts of the South-East and coastal areas in the morning, with moderate rains expected across the entire region later in the day.
The agency warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms and advised residents to secure loose objects to prevent accidents.
It also urged motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall, disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets and stay away from tall trees to reduce the risk of injury from falling branches and trees.
NiMet advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for effective flight planning and urged members of the public to remain informed through its regular weather updates.
