The Lagos State Government has launched the “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign as part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence (DSV) Awareness Month, reinforcing efforts to prevent abuse, support survivors and promote access to justice.
The initiative, championed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, in collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), involves illuminating public buildings, offices and strategic locations within Alausa in purple, the recognised colour for domestic and sexual violence awareness.
Speaking on the campaign, Agoro said the initiative symbolises the state’s commitment to creating a safer environment for residents and ensuring that survivors receive the support they need.
“Turning Alausa purple is more than illuminating our offices and public spaces. It is a statement that we recognise the problem, we care about those affected, and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels safe and protected,” he said.
Agoro stressed that tackling domestic and sexual violence requires collective action, urging public servants and residents to speak up, support survivors and direct victims to appropriate services.
The Head of Service noted that public servants have an important role to play in combating abuse and ensuring that awareness translates into practical action.
Executive Secretary of the DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the campaign is designed to spark conversations and inspire action against domestic and sexual violence.
“We want the purple in Alausa to be more than a colour. We want it to remind everyone who sees it that domestic and sexual violence is real, it affects people around us, and we all have a role to play in preventing it,” she said.
Vivour-Adeniyi urged survivors, witnesses and those who suspect cases of abuse to seek help and report incidents through appropriate channels, stressing that survivors should not face their experiences alone.
She also called on the media, schools, private organisations, communities and other stakeholders to support the campaign by promoting accurate information on prevention, reporting mechanisms and available support services.
The “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign forms part of broader activities lined up by the Lagos State Government for the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, underscoring the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to building safer homes, communities and institutions across the state.
