The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is on course to achieve its N11 trillion annual revenue target, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has said.
Oyedele attributed the development to the service’s aggressive automation, intelligence-led reforms and improved cargo processing under Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi.
He spoke during his inaugural NCS board meeting and a tour of the service’s facilities at its headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, on Sunday, Oyedele commended the service for generating N4.03 trillion in revenue in the first half of 2026.
He noted that the NCS generated an additional N1.38 trillion in July and August, describing the figures as evidence of its improved revenue performance and technology-driven reforms.
The minister praised the leadership and personnel of the service for their efforts to modernise customs operations, increase revenue and facilitate trade.
Oyedele also expressed satisfaction with the NCS’s intelligence tools and technological infrastructure, saying its achievements could provide a strong foundation for Nigeria to attain higher standards in regional and global trade.
“Results are precisely what should propel us to do more,” he said.
He said the service’s progress had positioned it to drive improvements in port efficiency, end-to-end transparency, faster cargo clearance and revenue integrity.
“Nigeria must lead through performance, not rhetoric,” Oyedele said.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for the NCS, assuring the service of continued access to modern technology, operational equipment and policy backing to strengthen its role as a leading trade facilitator in Africa.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Oyedele chaired the 65th regular meeting of the NCS board on Sept. 2, where the appointments of one Deputy Comptroller-General and five Assistant Comptrollers-General were approved.
