The Leo Stan Ekeh Foundation, in partnership with Zinox Group and TD Africa, has inaugurated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology Centres in two public secondary schools in Lagos.
The centres were inaugurated at Gbagada Senior Grammar School and Lanre Awolokun High School, both in Gbagada.
Founder of the foundation, Leo Stan Ekeh, said the facilities would give students and teachers access to AI, modern computing tools and digital learning resources.
According to him, each centre is equipped with Zinox All-in-One desktop computers, large interactive AI-enabled screens, 24-hour renewable energy solutions from iPower and two years of satellite internet connectivity from Starlink.
Ekeh said the combination of reliable power, internet connectivity and modern computing facilities would strengthen technology-based learning and provide students with access to educational resources beyond the classroom.
He urged the students to use the facilities to develop digital skills, pursue innovation and create opportunities that could contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.
Ekeh also called on the Federal and state governments to prioritise education and improve teachers’ welfare, arguing that better-paid and motivated teachers were essential to improving learning outcomes.
He said students who excel academically could receive full scholarships and access to advanced technology training through the foundation.
The Director of Studies of the foundation, Dr George Emetuche, said the organisation was working to train 1,000 young Nigerians with globally recognised technology qualifications.
Emetuche said brilliant but indigent students under the programme would receive full university scholarships, adding that the first beneficiaries had secured admission to study computer science and engineering at universities across Nigeria.
He said the Gbagada initiative was the latest of 123 education and technology projects undertaken across Nigeria during Ekeh’s 38 years in the technology industry.
Previous interventions, he added, included digital ICT centres at Imo State University, St Augustine University, Epe, Federal University Birnin Kebbi and selected secondary schools.
