The Federal Government has proposed a harmonised timetable for the 2027 public examinations, with the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled for March and results of major secondary school examinations expected by August.
The plan is aimed at reducing clashes among examination schedules, improving coordination among examination bodies and enabling eligible candidates to begin tertiary admission processes by September 2027.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced the proposed timetable on its social media platforms on Thursday.
Under the proposed schedule, the UTME will hold from March 15 to 25, 2027, while the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination is scheduled for April 1 to May 14.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will run from May 11 to June 18, followed by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations from June 1 to July 5.
The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examinations are scheduled for June 10 to July 9.
According to JAMB, the Federal Government is working with the examination bodies to harmonise the schedules and ensure the timely release of results.
“The Federal Government is working with examination bodies to align the 2027 examination timetable and ensure the timely release of results, enabling eligible candidates to begin tertiary admission processes by September 2027,” the board said.
The initiative is expected to minimise examination timetable clashes, strengthen coordination among the examination bodies and facilitate the processing and release of results within the proposed timeframe.
JAMB, however, clarified that the dates remain provisional and should not be treated as final.
The board urged candidates, parents and other stakeholders to monitor official announcements from the respective examination bodies for confirmation of the examination schedules.
