Troops have killed 48 suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters following an attempted assault on a military training facility in Buni Yadi, Yobe State.

The attack reportedly occurred on Thursday night when heavily armed insurgents stormed the Northeast Theatre Training School, triggering a fierce gun battle with security personnel stationed at the facility.
The troops successfully repelled the attackers, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents. However, an officer and a soldier were killed during the confrontation.
Following the encounter, soldiers recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The recovered items included 42 AK-47 rifles, five Russian PKT machine guns, four general-purpose machine guns and a 60mm mortar.
The military also recovered 105 AK-47 magazines, further highlighting the scale of the weapons carried by the attacking fighters.
The operation was described as a major success in ongoing counterinsurgency efforts in the North-East, particularly in weakening the operational capabilities of Boko Haram and ISWAP.
Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area, has remained vulnerable to insurgent attacks despite sustained military operations targeting terrorist networks across Yobe and neighbouring states.
The latest assault underscores the continuing security challenges in the region, where insurgents have repeatedly targeted military formations, communities and other strategic locations.
The military has maintained its campaign to dismantle terrorist networks, destroy their weapons stockpiles and restore security to communities affected by years of insurgency.
