The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) over the weekend, issued a two-week ultimatum to residents of over 15 distressed buildings at Iponri Housing Estate to evacuate. The buildings have been marked for demolition.

Arc. Gbolahan Oki, the GM LASBCA disclosed that the agency has issued several notices and warning to the affected residents to vacate the area.

Checks reveal that although the residents agree that the buildings are distressed but some are bringing up issues of ‘court order’ to delay or impede the state government from carrying out public safety action against private interest.

The action of some of the residents has become rampant in the state making the agency look weak faces in trying to do the right thing.

Government sources say, there will be a meeting between MD LBIC (Lagos Building Investment Company) and representatives of the affected distressed properties on Monday by 11:00 to find a way forward.

Iponri housing estate is owned by the Lagos State government and its mostly in blocks of two storey buildings. It is located in Surulere.
