The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) Ltd in Rivers State has officially begun processing crude oil, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector.
Femi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced this development on Tuesday on X.
In a follow-up teree statement, the spokesperson said: “Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Production; Truck Loading Starts Today, Tuesday!”
He expressed that this achievement represents a pivotal moment for the nation, heralding a new era of energy independence and economic growth.
Soneye congratulated President Bola Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and GCEO Mele Kyari for their steadfast commitment to this transformative project. He emphasized that their collective efforts are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future.
He also noted that the NNPC is diligently working to bring the Warri Refinery back shortly.
It will be recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari had preferred a complete overhaul of the brownfield refinery instead of the failed turn-around maintenance it was used to. The past government thereafter mobilised contractors to site.
