The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has started demolishing structures built on setbacks and drainage alignments along the Alaba International market drainage channel.

This move aims to ensure unobstructed stormwater flow in the area.

According to Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab, the exercise is crucial for maintaining the state’s drainage infrastructure and mitigating flooding risks.

The removal of these contravening structures is expected to improve the flow of stormwater and reduce the risk of flooding in the surrounding communities.

The Lagos State Government has been working to upgrade its drainage systems and remove obstacles that can cause flooding.

This effort is part of the state’s broader strategy to address environmental challenges and ensure a more sustainable future for its residents.
