The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked media reports suggesting that its investigation of Aisha Achimugu, a businesswoman, is linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Achimugu’s investigation has no connection to the two politicians.

Achimugu is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering, and has been declared wanted by the Commission.

The EFCC commenced its investigation in 2022, and despite Achimugu’s attempts to obtain an injunction, the court ruled in favor of the Commission, stating that no court has the power to stop investigative powers when there is reasonable suspicion of a crime.

The EFCC emphasized that its case against Achimugu has no nexus with any politician or political engagement, and reassured the public of its non-partisan and non-sectarian stance.

The Commission urged the public to maintain faith in its professionalism and not impute external considerations to its work.
