The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of Abiola Odutayo, also known as Biola Adams-Odutayo, in connection with the death of 32-year-old Adetunji Opayele, co-founder of Bumpa.

The incident, which occurred on March 4, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

According to the police, Odutayo was arraigned on March 12, 2025, at Court 1, Tinubu, on charges of reckless and careless driving, which resulted in Opayele’s death. The court granted her bail, and the case has been adjourned until April 16, 2025.

The police statement acknowledged public concerns and extended sympathies to Opayele’s family and friends. However, many Nigerians are demanding more severe charges, including manslaughter, citing allegations that Odutayo failed to yield and refused to assist the critically injured Opayele, reportedly due to concerns about staining her car.

Over 35,000 people have signed a petition calling for justice and demanding that the Lagos State Ministry of Justice oversee a thorough investigation and ensure proper prosecution. The case has sparked a national conversation about road safety, driver responsibility, and the need for accountability in cases of fatal accidents.
