In a bold move to combat cybercrime, the Lagos State Police Command has dismantled an internet fraud training facility, commonly known as a “Yahoo School,” in the Iju area of the state.
The raid, which took place on Tuesday, resulted in the arrest of four yahoo experts and six trainees, including a 12-year-old boy.
According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, the principal suspects, aged 22, 23, 25, and 26, were running the notorious school, recruiting trainees from Anambra and engaging them in internet fraud and other related crimes.
The proceeds from these activities were confiscated by the principal suspects.
The police have transferred all suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further investigation and prosecution. Efforts are also underway to arrest other accomplices, including the sponsors who financed the trainees’ enrollment and the owner of the facility.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their successful operation and assured residents that the command remains committed to combating all forms of crimes and criminalities.
The police are urging parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities to prevent them from being exploited or lured into criminal activities.
Victims of the fraudulent activities are also encouraged to report to the SCID in Yaba with their complaints.
