NDLEA arrests two brothers, makes significant drug busts in Lagos, nationwide

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made several notable arrests and seizures across Nigeria. Here are the key developments:

Lagos Airport Intercepts
– India-bound Brothers: Two brothers, John Abugu (43) and Kenneth Abugu (31), were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) with 5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in their suitcases. They claimed to be traveling to India for medical treatment.
– UK Techie with Cannabis: A 20-year-old Ghanaian-British man, Parker Darren Hazekia Osei, was intercepted with 19.40 kilograms of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, packed in a giant traveling bag. He claimed to be a student at East London University and alleged he was delivering the consignment in Nigeria ¹.

Other Notable Arrests and Seizures
– Kogi State: A 33-year-old lady, Ngozi Ogili, was arrested with 3 kilograms of methamphetamine while traveling from Lagos to Abuja.
– Abia State: A 75-year-old grandpa, Nna Nnanna Felix, was arrested with 1.6 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, during a raid.
– Yobe State: 381 bottles of codeine syrup and 108 tablets of tramadol were seized from a suspect along Potiskum-Damaturu road.
– Anambra State: Obinna Sunday was arrested, and 195,000 pills of tramadol were seized during a raid operation.
– Federal Capital Territory: A 51-year-old man, Sunday Ayogu, was arrested with 25 kilograms of skunk and 90.4 grams of methamphetamine during a raid operation.

Destruction of Cannabis Plantations
– Cross River State: NDLEA operatives, supported by the Nigerian Army, raided cannabis plantations in Esuk-Odot community, destroying 250,000 kilograms of the psychoactive plant on over 100 hectares of farmland.

NDLEA’s Efforts
– The agency has continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities across the country, targeting schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities.
– NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers and men for their operational successes, particularly their balanced approach to drug supply reduction and demand reduction efforts.
