The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, a public holiday to commemorate Workers’ Day across the country.

This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the crucial role of peace in driving industrialisation and sustaining economic growth. He applauded Nigerian workers for their resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to national development.

“There is dignity in labour. The dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building. I urge all workers to embrace innovation and productivity as core values in their professions,” he said.

The Minister encouraged workers to continually raise the standards in their respective fields, stating that such efforts will enhance governance and ensure that all Nigerians fully benefit from the nation’s resources.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to national security, Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured the public that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains dedicated to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens and foreigners alike.

He concluded by wishing all Nigerian workers a peaceful and joyful Workers’ Day celebration.
