The Lagos State Government says the Mushin Food Hub generated N178 million in food sales in the month of April.
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this at the All Farmers of Nigeria (AFAN) Women in Agriculture Summit held on Thursday in Lagos.
Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Abisola Olusanya, Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the growth of farmers in the state to achieve food security.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the Summit is: “She Farms, She Cares; The Role of Women in Food Security Chain.”
According to him, agriculture is the backbone of the nation’s economy.
He adder that women in agriculture had been playing pivotal role in the nation’s food value chain.
He stressed that Lagos State would continue to facilitate transformation in the various agricultural value chain in the state by creating enabling environment for farmers to thrive.
While delivering her keynote address, Prof. Gloria Elemo, urged the government to work closely with various stakeholders in the agricultural value chain to boost food security in the country.
Elemo, a former Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, urged women in agriculture to leverage technology to upscale their farming activities.
NAN reports that the summit was attended by AFAN members from across the state.
Also, various categories of awards were presented at the summit.
