Several chairmanship aspirants in Lagos State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the party’s ongoing primary elections.
Speaking on Saturday at the APC secretariat in Ikeja, the aspirants commended the transparency and organization of the exercise.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed July 12 for the forthcoming local government elections across the state. At the primaries, no fewer than 1,500 party delegates were present to cast their votes for various aspirants.
Mr. Akeem Dauda, a chairmanship aspirant for Ikeja Local Government, described the process as commendable and fair.
“We appreciate the leadership of our party and the Electoral Committee for ensuring that the primaries are conducted in a transparent manner,” he said.
Also speaking, Mrs. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, the current Vice Chairman of Ikorodu LG and a chairmanship aspirant, praised the peaceful conduct of the election.
“Some may have differing views, but I commend the party for its effort. I’m proud of what we’re doing,” she stated.
She highlighted her years of service at the grassroots level and pledged greater commitment if elected.
“This is a call to serve at a higher level. I am prepared and passionate about delivering more for our people,” she said.
On women’s inclusion in politics, Olabanji-Oba applauded the APC for creating more opportunities for women in governance.
“I celebrate my party. What they’ve done for women is unprecedented. We’ve never had this much recognition. President Bola Tinubu has always believed in women inclusion. He’s a leader who sees the future,” she added.
Mr. Larinde Ajibola, a 31-year-old aspirant from Ojokoro LCDA, also hailed the process, describing it as smooth, peaceful, and transparent.
“Party supremacy remains sacrosanct, but I also urge stakeholders to give more space to young people,” he said.
Ajibola praised President Tinubu’s youth-focused manifesto and hoped the promises of inclusion would be upheld.
“If elected, my top priorities will be youth empowerment, improved access to finance, and the security of lives and property,” he said.
Another aspirant, Mr. Tayo Aderinola from Ikeja LG, expressed readiness to support the party’s final candidate.
“I have stepped down for another aspirant and will give my full support to ensure party unity,” he said.
As of press time, the primary election process was still ongoing at the APC state secretariat.
