Twenty-six chairmanship candidates have emerged under the platform of the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the July 12 Local Government elections in Lagos State.
The Chairperson of the faction in Lagos, Pastor Dayo Ekong, announced the outcome of the party’s primaries held on Friday across 26 locations in the state. She explained that the exercise was successful in selecting candidates for 26 out of the 57 local government areas (LGAs) and local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.
Ekong revealed that the party deliberately chose not to field chairmanship candidates in 30 LGAs and LCDAs, including key areas such as Ikeja, Surulere, Agege, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Lagos Island West, Lagos Island East, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun, citing strategic considerations. She also noted that the primary election for Oshodi-Isolo LGA would be rescheduled, as the party plans to eventually present 27 candidates for the chairmanship positions.

“It has been quite an interesting process, and I am particularly pleased that the primaries went smoothly in almost all the LGAs,” she said. “For areas with issues, we’re thankful that security personnel were able to calm tensions, allowing the process to proceed successfully. Overall, it was a successful outing for the Labour Party in both chairmanship and councillorship primaries in Lagos.”
