Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing housing challenges through innovative solutions aimed at expanding access to decent and affordable homes for residents.

Speaking at the 75th World Congress of the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) on Tuesday in Lagos, the governor—represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai—highlighted ongoing efforts to reposition the housing sector as a catalyst for economic growth.

Themed “Global Real Estate Renaissance”, the congress brought together stakeholders to explore emerging trends in real estate, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos State views housing not merely as a basic necessity, but as a critical driver of job creation, social well-being, and economic advancement.

“We have implemented a variety of strategies to increase the supply of affordable housing, particularly for low- and middle-income residents,” he stated.

He noted that the government had made deliberate budget allocations and fostered an investment-friendly climate to attract private sector participation through public-private partnerships (PPPs).

“So far, these efforts have delivered nearly 10,000 housing units in the last six years, and we aim to complete over 14,000 more by 2026,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu also reassured global participants that Lagos remains open for business and is actively embracing global best practices to attract sustainable investments in housing and urban development.

The week-long congress, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, features discussions on advancing real estate development worldwide through innovation, collaboration, and strategic investment.
