The long-running rift within the Okoye family has once again erupted into the public domain, as Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, aka Mr P, takes a swipe at his elder brother and former manager, Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye, in a strongly-worded social media post.
Peter, one half of the defunct PSquare duo, minced no words as he accused Jude of betrayal, manipulation, and disrespect. The singer stated that respect is earned, not demanded by age or former roles, and called out Jude for allegedly labeling him as broke in front of EFCC officials—remarks that Peter claims ultimately led to Jude’s incarceration.
“Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you deserve respect. Respect is earned, not given… You were employed as a manager and got sacked like the others before you. Period!” Peter wrote.
The award-winning artiste went on to highlight how his solo career has brought him more financial reward and peace of mind than the era of shared profits with PSquare and their then-manager. He questioned the logic of continuing partnerships with individuals who, in his words, “stole from you, betrayed you, and still discriminate against your efforts.”
“What I now earn on my own as a solo artiste today is more than what I used to earn after splitting three ways,” he stated, adding, “This solo journey has been a blessing—more rewarding and profitable, both financially and personally.”
Peter also addressed ongoing legal matters, boldly asking his estranged family members:
“Despite being in court! Una never still answer the question, UNA THIEF ABI UNA NO THIEF?”
In a swift rebuttal, Jude Okoye fired back via Instagram, claiming that those he once supported through his platform eventually became “greedy” and abandoned him in pursuit of independence. According to Jude, these individuals have since fallen from grace and are now looking for scapegoats.
“They bragged about their ‘new found freedom’… Years down the line they fell off the wagon and became broke… They concocted and fabricated lies, attached money laundering and fraud to my name to get me jailed,” Jude wrote, alleging an attempt to blackmail him into submission.
He challenged them to clearly state what wrongs he had done to warrant their hostility.
The explosive exchange has left fans divided, with many expressing disappointment over the continued public airing of family grievances. While some fans sympathize with Peter’s quest for justice and independence, others have urged both parties to resolve their issues privately and focus on their respective careers.
As of now, neither Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) nor other members of the Okoye family have weighed in publicly on the latest chapter of this family saga.
