Lagos is quickly becoming a popular place for medical treatment in West Africa. Many people, including Nigerians living abroad and foreigners, are choosing to get medical care in Lagos instead of traveling to countries like the UK or the US.
This is because healthcare costs are rising in those countries, and waiting times for treatment can be very long. Lagos now has many modern private hospitals with skilled doctors and good equipment. These hospitals can do complex surgeries like heart and brain operations, as well as less invasive procedures for women’s health and bone problems.
Dr. Oladoyin Odubanjo, a public health expert, said these new hospitals are helping fill a gap left by government hospitals, which often cannot provide such advanced care. He also said that some Nigerians living in the UK are coming back home to Lagos for treatment because it is faster and cheaper.
However, Dr. Odubanjo worries that only rich people can afford private hospitals. He says public hospitals need to improve, and the health insurance system should be fixed so everyone can get good care.
The top 10 hospitals in Lagos were chosen based on their ability to handle serious surgeries, their facilities, and their experience. These hospitals are bringing patients not just from Nigeria but also from nearby countries and even the UK and US, making Lagos an important medical center in the region.
