Governor Hails Grassroots Innovation, Urges Voter Participation Ahead of 2027
In a landmark event for grassroots development, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned Ishokan 106.7 FM, Nigeria’s first-ever local government-owned radio station, along with newly constructed roads and a modern market in Mushin Local Government Area.
Speaking through Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu praised the Mushin LG Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, for spearheading what he called “trailblazing projects worthy of emulation by other councils across Nigeria.”
“This is how governance should be — impactful, people-driven, and innovative,” Sanwo-Olu declared. “The establishment of a radio station at the local government level is a bold, strategic move to deepen communication with the grassroots. Add the roads, market, and centralized services to the list — this is a model for true leadership.”
The governor also used the occasion to rally citizens toward greater political participation. “If you truly believe in the progress we’re making and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, then ensure you have your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC). Our collective future depends on it,” he said.
Echoing the call for civic engagement, Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, highlighted Mushin’s political significance, noting it holds the highest number of polling units in the state — 547 in total. “We are targeting at least 136,000 votes from Mushin in the 2027 elections,” he revealed.
In his remarks, Hon. Bamigboye urged residents to take ownership of the new public assets, promising more transformative initiatives in the coming months. “These projects are just the beginning. We will not relent in building a Mushin that works for all,” he said.
The commissioning ceremony attracted community leaders, party stalwarts, traditional rulers, and residents who welcomed the developments with excitement and praise.
