Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially inaugurated the newly elected chairmen and vice-chairmen of the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), marking a renewed commitment to effective grassroots governance and accelerated service delivery across the state.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, commenced with the swearing-in of the vice-chairmen, followed by their respective chairmen. The event drew a large gathering of family members, political supporters, and dignitaries including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), cabinet members, traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives, youth representatives, trade unions, and market associations.
In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu charged the newly sworn-in local government executives to prioritize the welfare of residents and uphold the trust placed in them by the electorate and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He underscored the strategic importance of local governments in bridging the gap between the state and its citizens, and in delivering the real benefits of democracy.
“Your primary responsibility is to serve the people with transparency, accountability, and a deep sense of purpose. Grassroots governance is the heartbeat of development, and Lagosians are expecting results,” the governor said.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairmen, Hon. Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for their unwavering support and commitment to strengthening local governance. He also appreciated the strategic direction provided by the GAC, led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi, and the APC leadership in the state, under Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.
Hon. Olowa reaffirmed the resolve of the chairmen to work tirelessly to justify the mandate given to them and deliver on the promises made during the campaigns.
With the swearing-in concluded, the newly elected grassroots leaders are expected to immediately begin implementing development-focused policies aimed at improving the lives of residents in their respective councils.
