A man has been arrested in the Ipaja area of Lagos State after police officers discovered a semi-automatic pistol concealed in his wife’s handbag during a routine stop-and-search operation.

The arrest was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who said officers from the Ipaja Division had stopped two women for a standard security check. During the inspection of their belongings, a firearm was found inside one of the bags.

According to CSP Hundeyin, one of the women immediately identified the owner of the weapon as her husband and led the officers to their residence. The man was promptly arrested and taken into custody.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The Lagos State Police Command said the arrest underscores its resolve to rid the streets of illegal firearms. It also urged residents to see the police as allies in the ongoing effort to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
