A sports programme for children under the age of 15 has started in Enugu State.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development said it launched the event to help discover young talents who can represent the state in the upcoming National Youth Games.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu, explained that the programme began on Friday and would take place during the school holiday period.

He said it was happening across six education zones in the state: Enugu, Agbani, Awgu, Udi, Nsukka, and Udenu.

The programme was planned in partnership with the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB).

He added that students from secondary schools would take part in different sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, wrestling, boxing, judo, taekwondo, chess, table tennis, badminton, karate, squash, and traditional games.

The programme was designed to run in all three senatorial districts of the state and would give young athletes a chance to show their skills.

The Ministry said it hoped the event would help build a strong team for the national competition and also encourage more young people to take part in sports.
